چکیده

Safety validation of changes to an individual organization’s local ATM system has become common practice in Europe. However, the SESAR program is planning changes in air traffic operations in Europe that go much further than changes to a local ATM system. This paper identifies the issues on which safety validation approaches need extensions, in order to move from safety validation of changes to a local ATM system to safety validation in SESAR. Subsequently, it identifies approaches that address the identified extension needs. This way an integrated view is developed from the fragmented research results in this area. Keywords-Safety validation, ATM, SESAR.

Satellite Communications Data Link Solution for Long Term Air Traffic Management

Within the scope of ICAO AMS(R)S SARPs document [1], three classes (Class A, B and C) of communication performance requirements for Air Traffic Management (ATM) are being proposed by the EUROCONTROL NEXUS group to cover future oceanic as well as continental airspace operational needs. These classes will cover first trajectory-based operations (SESAR Step2/Class B), and later performance based o...

Concurrent system engineering in Air Traffic Management: steering the SESAR program

As a “System of Systems” (SoS), Air Traffic Management (ATM) in Europe will be improved by simultaneous and coordinated evolutions of its constituting systems. The SESAR Program aims at reaching an ambitious performance target (for 2020) by developing a large collection of “Operational Improvement Steps” (OIs). This development is achieved by more than 300 projects, themselves involving a numbe...

Agent-based safety risk analysis of Trajectory Based Operation in the Terminal Manoevring Area

In 2004 the European Commission initiated the Single European Sky ATM Research (SESAR) programme to meet significantly higher capacity and safety targets in the future. The current architecture of ATM services needs to be changed in order to realise these targets. This paper presents the results of an initial quantitative safety risk analysis of a Trajectory Based Operation (TBO) in the Termina...

SeSaR: Security for Safety

The SeSaR (Security for Safety in Railways) project is a HW/SW system conceived to protect critical infrastructures against cyber threats both deliberate and accidental – arising from misuse actions operated by personnel from outside or inside the organization, or from automated malware programs (viruses, worms and spyware). SeSaR’s main objective is to strengthen the security aspects of a comp...

Key Technological Solutions from the Sesar Programme to Improve Air Traffic Safety

The dynamic development of the air transport market has led to a significant increase in air traffic in a highly fragmented and relatively small European airspace. This situation could, in the near future, render the currently functioning European air traffic management (ATM) system obsolete and incapable of providing the high safety standards demanded by the ICAO and Eurocontrol. Recognizing t...
